Tongues of Our Fathers is a language of the Maroons of Moore Town and surrounding communities in Portland, Jamaica. It is regarded as the language of the African ancestors of the community and these ancestors, regarded as being always present, have to be addressed in this language. We get a feel for the sound of this language, and another language, which they refer to as Uol Taim Patwa. This we hear through the mouth of Mr. Isaac Bernard, one of the last remaining tradition bearers of this community. This video is twelve minutes and fifty-two seconds long (12:52).
